Specialized curriculum oncology - general
The focus on oncology curriculum is offered by the "Comprehensive Cancer Center" (CCC) Marburg to a small group of interested students who have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in oncology. All specialist disciplines contribute their part in the course of the curriculum, so that the students get a comprehensive picture of the complexity of oncological diseases, including therapeutic strategies, the latest research results, but also social and ethical aspects.
The coordination of the focus curriculum is carried out by Prof. Dr. Thomas Wündisch, Comprehensive Cancer Center, taken over (see also contact).
All students of the clinical study section can apply to participate. In addition to a keen interest in tumor diseases, you should also be interested in molecular and cell biological questions and interdisciplinary work. And last but not least, of course, having fun working on a topic independently and discussing it with fellow students.
At the beginning of each winter semester, a new group of around 12-15 students begins with the curriculum. The oncology core curriculum lasts three years. In a one-year introductory part ('Start-Up'), tumor biological and scientific principles are developed, while in the two-year clinical part ('Clinical Oncology', 'Advanced Clinical Oncology'), specific oncological disease patterns from all specialist disciplines are examined under different aspects. Further information on the respective section can be found under the corresponding links in the navigation menu on the left.
Every week there is a seminar held by a group of two or three students. Each student holds a seminar together with his group during each semester. In general, the seminars should be held in English. Each semester forms a thematic block from which the students deal with one topic, whereby the ideas and wishes of the students are also taken into account during the planning. A lecturer is invited to the respective seminar date, who moderates the seminar and also supplements the student lecture. In addition, every semester there is a weekend seminar in which all students from the various groups take part together. Each weekend seminar has a specific main topic. The weekend seminar in January 2017, for example, was on the topic of "Possibilities and limits of modern tumor therapy". Lecturers from various disciplines give introductory lectures and the students present appropriate studies that they have previously worked on together.
In the meantime, 102 students have successfully completed the curriculum with a certificate in the last 13 years.
